About us

Nevero aims to make art and culture, in the broadest sense, accessible to those who cannot see (well).

Susanne Verberk

Audio Describer and Founder of Nevero

Hi! I’m Susanne. I first became acquainted with audio description in 2002, at a conference in Berlin. At the time, there were no Dutch audio describers, so I pursued training with colleagues abroad.

When audio description started taking off in the Netherlands and Flanders, in about 2009, I became one of the first professional audio describers in the Dutch-speaking region.

As the volume of work rapidly increased, I began training new audio describers, in order to expand my team. Our audio descriptions can be heard on the VRT and NPO (Flemish and Dutch public broadcasters), and of course in the cinema and on many online videos. In addition, I still serve as a live audio describer for a limited number of events. But my favourite thing to do is write audio descriptions for nature documentaries and audio guides for blind and visually impaired museum-goers.

Pascal Govaert

Narrator and Corrector

Since Nevero was founded, I have been one of the core editors for subtitles and audio descriptions. I also like to serve as a test subject for the route descriptions in the audio guides that Susanne writes – an important job, since left and right must not get mixed up! 😊

In the summer of 2021, I passed the test for narrators at Transkript Productiehuis, a recording studio specialised in audiobooks. Now, I spend half a day per week in the studio, narrating books. That way, people who are blind or visually impaired, but also people who have trouble reading for one reason or another, can enjoy their favourite books.

In addition, I have a studio at home, in which I record audio descriptions, among other things. Do you wonder what I sound like? On the page Narration, you can listen to samples of my work.

What do we do?

Together, we make art and culture accessible to those who cannot see (well). We do this by means of audio description, a technique in which a narrative voice describes images. For (online) videos, TV programmes or films, this is done between the dialogues and important background sounds. But you can also find us at live events, where we give a running commentary on what can be seen. We also make inclusive audio guides for museums. They not only provide information about the works of art, but also a vivid description and often directions on where to go next.
